Thanks to our Gold Foil’s acoustic transparency, it’s one of the most versatile guitar pickups we offer. If you play softly, the fundamental tones are round and full and come to the forefront. Increase your pick attack and you add more high harmonic overtones. Well suited for a variety of playing styles as well as guitars ranging from "Coodercasters" to jazz boxes. People often say the P90 is the halfway point between a Fender-style single coil and a humbucker. I respectfully disagree. This set of gold foils is more representative of that ideal - warm but clear in the neck, bright but not ice-picky in the bridge.
The neck really shines. Very “woody” tone that folks often associate with vintage strats. Maybe a bit more filled out in the lower midrange, but great clarity. You can hear the articulation of the pick quite well even in the neck.
The bridge is no slouch either! Very pleasant and focused midrange with great high end response. The “bite” responds very well to low-mid gain.
Overall, I’m very impressed. These pickups have an acoustic quality to them and there’s a lot of character to each note. There’s nothing else quite like gold foils - and I like that.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a set. They aren’t cheap, but the value is there.

I used the pickup for a custom lap steel, by the neck - together with the Lollar String through at the bridge. 25 inch scale. This pup mix they call the "coodercaster" pickups.
They gold foil has a very beutiful singing tone and is good for gospel and melodies.
Playing chords is allways ok - the chord is never a mash but sounds clean.
I'm a newbie in guitar making, but a friend of mine, making guitars for bout 30 years was deeply impressed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it matter which way I orient the pickup when I install it?
Our Gold Foils use a large oval magnet; they are not directional. The pole piece screws offer very slight individual adjustment, but they are largely cosmetic.
What values of potentiometers and capacitors do you recommend for Gold Foil pickups?
Gold Foils (like other bright single coil pickups) work well with 250k pots (both volume and tone) and .047μF caps—and these are the values we typically recommend. That said, there are no hard and fast rules. You can read more about how different pot and cap values affect tone in this two-part blog post: Part I - Pots, Part II - Caps.
Do you offer a third wire on Gold Foils—like you do on your Tele neck pickups—for series/parallel or in/out of phase switching?
We can do a jacketed two-conductor wire with Gold Foils that will allow you to take advantage of in/out of phase or series/parallel wiring for an upcharge of $10 per pickup.
