Lollar Mustang Specials channel later 60s- and 70s-era Mustang sounds, and offer a slightly darker, fuller-bodied, and hotter voice than our other Mustang pickups. The Mustang Specials are a great fit for players looking to drive their amp a little harder, or for those who want a little less high end, with more emphasis on the low end and midrange. They are a drop-in replacement for most vintage Mustang, Duo-Sonic and Musicmaster pickups, as well as contemporary reissues.

Lollar Mustang Special pickups in Fender MIJ '60s Mustang

I recently purchased a Fender Made In Japan '60s Traditional Mustang. The OEM pickups weren't bad but I wanted something 'more muscular'.
I looked at options from Seymour Duncan, Fralin and Lollar, all of which I'm sure are very good. The expert staff at my local music store here in Melbourne Australia told me that they had never heard anything but good about Lollar so after listening to tone samples on their website I ordered a set of Mustang Specials which arrived pretty quickly. I'm glad I did because they sound awesome and are exactly what I was looking for but more so.
