Fantastic Tone From Top to Bottom

I bought a Fender Elite J bass and while I loved the feel of the neck and playability the N4s were just not doing it. I listened to 15 different demos of various J pickups and finally landed on Lollar. I just love these. They sound like what I expect my bass to sound like. There is clarity and definition without being trebly and without losing any heft. They are just right.

bridge p/u: vintage Jazz sound of the 1960's

I have used the Seymour Duncan’s Apollo bridge p/u, the stock p/u that comes w. the Jazz, & the Aguilar music man bridge p/u. After I installed the Lollar 1960’s jazz p/u, I was amazed. The output was greater. The articulation was more prominent. The bridge p/u of most brands are nasal in tone which is why I mainly used my neck p/u all basses. This Lollar bridge p/u is not nasal. It has a full body tone which is unique for a bridge p/u. I just ordered another one for another bass. If your place this 1960’s Jazz p/u by Lollar about the same distance from the bridge as it was done in the 1960’s, you will get a beautiful tone like the vintage Jazz had. Man, I am so pleased. Thanks to you, Jason Lollar.

I was able to get my hands on an American Standard Jaguar bass, a PJ passive/active multi-tool that had a short production lifespan of about a year or two. Given that brief time and having been discontinued about 7 years ago, they can get pricey, so I was stoked to find one that I could afford right after I’d finished my Christmas shopping. The downside was that the original pickups had been replaced by DiMarzios. I’m not knocking the DiMarzios, as they are great pickups if you prefer a modern sound; they’re just too hot and punchy for my tastes. I’m a bigger fan of a well rounded pickup that can do deep, warm tones. I swapped out the bridge J pickup with this Lollar, and the difference is night and day. Where the DiMarzio is the angry frontman, the Lollar is the classically trained singer that can blend with any style. It’s amazing to someone like me, a person that heavily favors the neck pickup of any bass, that I can play this Jazz bridge pup on its own and still be satisfied! If you’re contemplating a new J pup or two and tone quality matters to you, you can’t do better than these!

I came across these pups in a Nash bass, and was immediately smitten. They are warm, clear and harmonic with a great amount of output. I have moved them through 3 basses because I love them so much.

I've tried DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, Fender Custom Shop, Seymour Duncan Antiquity, Aero Type I and Bill Lawrence J pickups in varous J bodies over the years. I used to feel unsatisfied and restless and swap out pickups fairly often. The Aeros were a prior "search over" but for my latest build I wanted to try something slightly more old-school. After a great experience with their '51 single coil, I decided to try the Lollar J pickups. The neck pickup is deep and full yet punchy enough to use solo most of the night if you're into that neck pickup / single coil kind of sound. Both pickups yield more "snap" and "scoop" and provide good hum-canceling. This set leaves me fully satisfied - no more swapping for me. On a practical note, I appreciate the comfort of the slightly rounded edges and the elevated poles for the middle strings. I have become a real big fan of what this company does to provide an easily attainable vintage vibe that seems to mesh perfectly with my musical approach.

These pick ups are amazing! I put them in my fender MIM road worn jazz bass, and wow! My bass sounds really good! They are very punchy articulate and have a full tone. I've gotten many compliments from fellow musicians saying that my bass is the nicest sounding they have heard! I highly recommend these pickups along with any lollar pickups! I also have lollar humbuckers in one of my guitars, and can say that their pickups are arguably the best out there.

Now an essential part of my tone

I changed out the factory Fender pups in my MIM JBass (1995) and it has quite literally changed the face of the instrument. Harmonics jump off. the neck, the notes sound big ands tight and the articulation is unbelievable. I used to dime the tone knob to squeeze that upper edge tone; now I find I need back off the tone knob as the Lollar now gives so much range! I have since swapped out my American PBass with a Lollar and it sounds incredible!

I don't think I've ever been more satisfied with a musical purchase than I have been with these pickups. They perfectly encapsulate what I feel is the perfect Jazz bass tone; Fat, yet tight on the bottom, and clear yet warm on the top. They really let your amp and playing style dictate your tone. Whether playing clean or very overdriven, these Lollars have ended my search for jazz bass pickups.

5 String Set is awesome

I have had a set on my AM STD JB 5 for 2 years, and they sound amazing.
Really awesome depth to the tone, and a perfect balance of modern and vintage. Fit and finish on product is unsurpassed, and install is seemless.
The open E string tone and fullness is there, which is not an easy thing to do on a 5 string pickup set. Lollar has done it.
The B string is full and focused.
These pickups have caused me to use my JB5 on gigs that I would have previously thought to only use a traditional 4 string JB or P.
Once again great work from Jason and crew!! Thank you!!
